What a XC race is all about. Epic climbs to the tune of almost 2600 vertical ft of elevation gain. Sweet single-track trail & demanding descents will make this one of the most technical courses of the year. While the overall distance seems short, this course will require every bit of your resolve!
Parking is provided behind the Library downtown, riders will be neutral escorted to the start line. Once you reach Reservoir Road, the race will begin. Climbing up Reservoir Road, you will turn on to the first single-track section at "Norling Creek" this short technical trail will bring you along side the flowing creek back up to the road. Crossing the road, you will climb up "Ridge View" trail over the top (Short course turn off here) & dropping down some sweet single-track back up to the fire road. Once on the road, the real work begins. The 4mile climb up to the top will test your power & will to go on. At the top, you will go across the side hill following an old mining trail what is referred to the "Three Challenges" You will climb the first challenge & then be given an all too short decent before the next. Taking the "easy way out" we will route riders around the next two challenges over to "Jed's Climb" This 1mile MONSTER climb will have your realizing what a granny gear is all about. From the top of "Jed's Climb" you will spin through rolling hills, a few short singletrack & double track sections as you come flying over the summit to "Lilly Prairie Trail". Turning on the "Lilly Prairie Trail" you will get to descend one of the most spectacular trails ever built. This rolling trail figure 8s down the hill with burmed corners & fast flowing sections. From there, you will drop in on to the now Famous Super D course some might know from earlier this year. With comments like"Better than Sea Otter" & "One of the best flowing trail ever" this trail sections incorporates everything a rider needs. From Lilly Prairie, you descend down the MRA connector trail to your last climb, turning left on to "Cantrell Creek" trail. This Legend of a trail follows the Cantrell Creek drainage & actually goes down the creek bed at one point. Once riders exit the Creek trail, you will get to enjoy a newly re-claimed trail section"Granite Trail". Once you reach the road, you will have a short break before you jump on to the "Rail Trail". This section of trail follows the old train rail used to put in Jacksonville Dam. It starts off wide & easy but eventually narrows down in to a tight switchback covered trail. A real bike handlers dream. A short bridge section over the lower Creek bed & you will be at the lap point; ready to tear it up again.
Short course: Cat 3 & Pro/Cat1 second lap will descend down another newly re-claimed trial (yellow)back to "Granite Trail" & on down to the Finnish
